A hilarious yet shocking video has left Kenyans online in stitches after a man was caught on camera trying to steal a chapati from a street vendor.
In the clip, the man posed as a normal customer as the chapati seller busily attended to someone else. When the vendor’s eyes were off him, the man quickly stretched his hand, snatched a hot chapati straight from the pan, and tucked it inside the front of his trousers.
But things didn’t go as planned. The chapati was so hot that he immediately began squirming, dancing, and shaking his body as if he was “kutingisha mwili” to cool himself down.
Still convinced he had gotten away with it, he tried to walk off calmly—only to realize that a camera had captured the entire act. Unable to withstand the heat anymore, he yanked out the chapati and flung it to the ground before hurrying away in shame.
The clip has since gone viral, with amused netizens joking that “the chapati thief was punished instantly by fire.” Others condemned his actions but admitted the funny dance had them laughing uncontrollably.
It’s a perfect reminder that stealing doesn’t pay—sometimes the punishment comes faster (and hotter) than expected!
