A cloud of grief has engulfed Angata Barrikoi village in Kilgoris, Narok County, after a 13-year-old girl was brutally raped and killed by unknown assailants early Thursday morning.
According to residents, the young student was on her way to school to sit for her national examinations when she was attacked. Her lifeless body was later discovered dumped in a nearby thicket, sending shockwaves across the community.
Local leaders and residents have strongly condemned the horrific act, calling on the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to move with speed and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“This is a heartbreaking and inhumane act. The child had a bright future ahead, and her family deserves justice,” said one area elder.
The incident has left the victim’s family devastated. They are appealing to members of the public, well-wishers, and leaders to come forward and support them as they plan for the burial and seek justice for their daughter.
“We are in pain. Our child was innocent. We are asking Kenyans to help us give her a decent send-off,” a family member said emotionally.
Community members have also urged the government to enhance security and protect students, especially during national examinations when children often travel early in the morning to reach their schools.
The body of the deceased has been moved to a nearby mortuary as police continue investigations.
