Guardian Angel: Marrying My 53-Year-Old Wife Helped Me Escape Depression

Gospel singer Guardian Angel has credited his marriage to 53-year-old Esther Musila for his mental well-being and his escape from depression. Despite their 20-year age difference, which has drawn public attention, their union has provided the artist with peace and stability.

At 33, Guardian Angel recently spoke at a Men’s Mental Health Awareness Concert organized by comedian Oga Obinna, where he shared how his marriage has been a pivotal part of his mental health journey. He emphasized the significance of marrying the right person, noting that having a supportive partner has been crucial in helping him avoid depression.

“Marrying the right person has helped me escape depression,” Guardian Angel revealed, highlighting the importance of a partner who listens and offers a sense of calm. “Having someone who can listen to you is very important because you remain sane, and there’s no drama about where you’ve been or where you’re going. I have a lot of peace in my marriage.”

Guardian Angel’s relationship with Musila has not only defied societal expectations but also sparked conversations about love and age differences. Despite facing criticism, the couple has remained resilient, supporting each other through thick and thin. Guardian Angel attributes their strong bond as a key factor in maintaining his mental health.

In addition to his marriage, Guardian Angel also spoke about the role of prayer in his life, especially during challenging times. He stressed that their spiritual connection has further strengthened their relationship.

As a prominent figure, Guardian Angel has become an advocate for mental health, particularly focusing on the struggles men face in expressing vulnerability. He candidly discussed the societal pressures that often prevent men from opening up about their challenges.

“Most men find it hard to open up when they are going through challenges because they fear being judged,” he remarked during the event.

Guardian Angel’s advocacy goes beyond his personal experiences. At the opening of the Nuhealth Medical Centre in Kitisuru, a new rehabilitation facility, he addressed the dangers of fame and the risk of substance abuse among celebrities. He shared a poignant story of a friend, a once-celebrated musician, who succumbed to depression and addiction.

“I once gave a friend of mine Sh10,000, and 24 hours later, he couldn’t remember who gave him the money. His talent was wasted on drugs,” Guardian Angel recounted, underscoring the urgency of addressing mental health issues.
