GSU officer arrested with bags of suspected bhang freed on KSh500,000 bond

An officer from the General Service Unit (GSU) was apprehended on June 5th in Malindi, Kilifi County, for possession of cannabis sativa (commonly known as bhang). Abderehman Kassim Hussein, the individual in question, was detained by a joint security team stationed at the Sabaki Bridge vehicle checkpoint. Subsequently, on June 6th, he was presented before the Malindi Law Courts to face the allegations.

Despite the charges leveled against him for possessing a controlled substance, Hussein entered a plea of not guilty during the court proceedings. Following the legal proceedings, he was granted release on a bond amounting to KSh500,000, with no option for cash bail.

According to a report lodged at the Malindi Police Station, the incident unfolded when a multi-agency team intercepted a Toyota Probox vehicle (registration number KDD 253T) ferrying passengers bound for Lamu on that eventful day.
