Gladys Wanga: Kahiga Speaks for Rigathi Gachagua, Who Once Mocked Raila Even When He Was Sick

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has hit out at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of hypocrisy and double standards in his recent statements about the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a public event, Wanga claimed that Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has been acting as Gachagua’s mouthpiece, often expressing sentiments that reflect the Deputy President’s personal views.

“Kahiga speaks for Rigathi Gachagua; he does not speak for himself,” Wanga stated.

She went on to criticize Gachagua for pretending to mourn Raila Odinga, recalling how he had previously mocked Raila during his illness and accused him of blocking development in Mt. Kenya.

“Even when Raila was alive, we heard Gachagua saying Raila was blocking development in Mt. Kenya. He even mocked Raila when he was sick — the same Raila who braved political tension to mourn his brother, Nderitu Gachagua,” Wanga remarked.

The governor said it was disappointing to see leaders display selective sympathy, adding that true leadership requires consistency and respect for others, even in disagreement.

Wanga also reminded Kenyans of Raila’s spirit of unity and compassion, noting that despite political differences, he always stood with families in grief, including those of his fiercest opponents.

Her remarks have sparked heated reactions online, with ODM supporters applauding her for defending Raila’s legacy, while others accused her of politicizing a moment of mourning.

Still, Wanga insisted that her comments were not meant to attack but to call out hypocrisy and remind leaders of the need for honesty and empathy in public life.
