Girl Working as a House maid in Saudi Arabia Builds Her Own Multi-Million Mansion in the Village

Maryann Mwaura’s transformation from a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia to a proud homeowner in Kenya is a testament to resilience and determination. After dedicating more than a decade to working for a family in Riyadh, she has realized her dream of owning land and constructing a multi-million-shilling mansion in her village.

Maryann’s journey began in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, where she grew up as the third-born in a family of eight children. Despite the challenges of limited resources, she was determined to pursue her education. She attended Kiambaa Primary School and later Hidden Talent Academy in Dagoretti for secondary school. However, financial constraints forced her and her two sisters to transfer to a local school.

High school presented further challenges, as Maryann struggled with self-esteem issues, leading her to drop out twice. During this turbulent time, she moved to Nairobi to live with a man but soon realized it wasn’t the life she wanted. With support from her eldest sister, she returned to school and eventually completed her education.

After finishing school, Maryann’s challenges continued. She reunited with a boyfriend who abandoned her after she became pregnant. Later, she entered a violent marriage, which she left to protect herself and her son. These experiences strengthened her resolve to build a better future.

In 2014, Maryann took a leap of faith and accepted an opportunity to work as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia. Aware of the risks and stories of mistreatment, she remained determined to succeed. After completing her training and signing a contract, she began working for a family in Riyadh. Although initially expected to work alongside another helper, Maryann negotiated a higher salary to handle the work alone, demonstrating her efficiency and dedication.

Her hard work quickly earned the trust and affection of her employers. She described her boss as a maternal figure, saying, “I found a mother in my boss because she makes me feel at home, and we would always talk about anything.” With her employer’s guidance, Maryann opened a bank account in Saudi Arabia, enabling her to save diligently toward her goals.

Maryann’s primary ambition was to buy land and build a house in Kenya. Years of saving allowed her to purchase a piece of land, although she encountered setbacks with a real estate company. Undeterred, she retrieved her funds and began building her dream home. Today, that house is nearing completion, a symbol of her perseverance and determination.

Her story serves as an inspiration, highlighting the power of hard work, resilience, and a clear vision for the future.
