Millie Odhiambo reacts to Gachagua’s church attack-While I was away, there was an attack on people in a church by people said to be the police, that amounts to abuse of power

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has strongly condemned an alleged attack on worshippers at a church, reportedly carried out by individuals said to be police officers, following events linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement, Odhiambo said she was away when the incident occurred but expressed deep concern over reports that security officers may have used force against civilians inside a place of worship. She noted that if those involved were indeed police officers, then the incident would amount to a serious abuse of power.

The legislator said she was particularly horrified that the alleged attack took place in a church, a space meant to be safe and sacred, and that the majority of those affected were women and children. She emphasized that places of worship should never become arenas for violence, regardless of political disagreements.

While making it clear that she does not support Gachagua politically, Odhiambo stressed that wrongdoing should always be condemned, even when it does not directly affect one’s political interests. She warned against selective outrage, saying that injustice does not become acceptable simply because it targets political opponents.

Drawing from her own experiences, Odhiambo revealed that she has been a victim of police brutality on several occasions. She urged authorities and political actors to seek better, more humane ways of handling differing views without resorting to force.

Her remarks have added to growing public concern over the conduct of security agencies and the protection of civilians, especially in sensitive spaces such as churches, as calls for accountability continue to mount.
