Germany and Ukraine have taken a significant step in strengthening their defence cooperation by launching their first-ever joint drone production project. The initiative marks a new phase in European security collaboration and reflects the growing industrial partnership between the two countries amid ongoing security challenges in Eastern Europe.
The project brings together Ukrainian battlefield experience and German technological and manufacturing capacity. At the center of the partnership is a joint venture involving Quantum Systems and Ukrainian partners, creating a production line in Germany dedicated to manufacturing Ukrainian-designed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This move is historic because it represents the first time Ukrainian drone systems are being produced on an industrial scale outside Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the facility and received the first drone produced under the initiative. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius also attended the event, signaling Berlin’s strong political backing for the program. The presence of top leadership from both countries underscored the strategic importance of the project.
The drones being produced are designed for reconnaissance and multi-purpose military operations. They incorporate advanced navigation systems and are intended to enhance Ukraine’s operational capabilities. Reports indicate that the facility could produce thousands of drones annually, providing a steady and reliable supply to Ukrainian forces.
