According to reports, the suspect, whose identity has not yet been established, was allegedly caught committing the act in a bush near Tiekunu Primary School. The young victim, a Grade 3 pupil, was rescued by locals who rushed to the scene after learning of the incident.
Witnesses say that after securing the girl’s safety, residents organized a search to track down the suspect. A short video from the scene captured women screaming and calling for help as they combed the area in anger.
Police officers later arrived at the scene, where the suspect’s body was taken to a nearby mortuary. The young girl was also rushed to hospital for medical attention and examination.
Authorities have since urged the public to allow the law to take its course in such cases, warning against mob justice even in situations that provoke public outrage.
