In 2019, Theresah Adusei made her family proud by graduating from the university with top honors. However, the excitement of her academic achievements soon gave way to the harsh reality of a challenging job market.
Like many graduates, she embarked on a job hunt during her national service, but the responses to her applications were dishearteningly silent.
“I started a job hunt, but you send CVs you don’t get feedback,” she lamented in an interview with Joy Prime. Despite her persistent efforts and appeals for help from influential individuals, including her pastor, Adusei found herself caught in a jobless cycle.
Faced with the relentless pursuit of a career that seemed out of reach, Adusei decided to take matters into her own hands. She transformed her hobby of hairstyling into a business opportunity. Her talent for hairstyling, nurtured during her time on campus where she styled her own hair and that of her roommates, became her beacon of hope.
While the decision to enter the world of hairstyling wasn’t universally supported, including initial disagreement from her mother, Adusei’s determination remained unshaken. With the support of her father and close friends, she built a container salon, turning her passion into a thriving business.
It has been six months since Theresah Adusei, the first-class graduate, embarked on her entrepreneurial journey. Her ability to adapt and persevere in the face of adversity has not only allowed her to support herself but also her siblings.
