Family opens up on Double Tragedy of Son’s Death in Finland a Year after Daughter died in Australia

The Nandi family from Kapserton Village, Nandi County, Kenya, is grappling with an immense loss after the deaths of their two children within a year.

Their daughter, Sheila Jeptum, tragically passed away in a road accident in Australia in February 2024. Exactly a year later, their son, Eugene Kipkoech, drowned in Finland on March 9, 2025.

Despite their hopes and sacrifices, including selling land to support their children’s journeys abroad, the family is now struggling with grief. They need Sh4 million to bring Eugene’s body back to Kenya. As they await further investigation into his death, they are left to reconcile with the overwhelming pain of losing both children in such a short span.
