DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has publicly turned down President William Ruto, revealing that the Head of State has been making overtures to lure him into government.
Speaking during a public forum, Wamalwa said President Ruto had repeatedly sent emissaries urging him to join the administration. He disclosed that after former Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale exited the ministry, there were plans for him to replace Duale, but he declined the offer.
“President William Ruto has been sending people to us so that we join his government. Upon Duale’s exit from Defence, he wanted me to replace him, but I told him that I am not interested,” Wamalwa said.
The former Cabinet minister emphasized that his decision was driven by principle, stating that he prefers to remain in the opposition rather than compromise his political stance. His remarks come amid continued efforts by the Kenya Kwanza administration to broaden its political base by bringing opposition figures on board.
Wamalwa’s statement has triggered fresh political debate, with supporters praising him for standing firm, while critics argue that national unity should outweigh political differences.
The revelation adds another layer to Kenya’s shifting political landscape, as President Ruto continues to reorganize his government while opposition leaders weigh whether to cooperate or resist.
