Eric Omondi to build bridge after viral video of little girl crossing it

Comedian Eric Omondi recently made a public announcement regarding his initiative to raise funds for the construction of a bridge in Kisii. This decision was prompted by a widely circulated video depicting a young girl navigating a perilous bridge on her way to school, which sparked considerable public debate.

Taking to his official Instagram page, the comedian earnestly appealed to fellow Kenyans for financial support in the endeavor to transform the dilapidated bridge into a safer and more reliable structure. Omondi emphasized the urgency of the situation, cautioning that the bridge is on the brink of collapse, posing a potential tragedy. Despite the community’s efforts to reinforce the bridge, their attempts thus far have fallen short.

The distressing video captured the courage of a young girl named Shirleen crossing what locals refer to as the “bridge of death” in Nyakumbati village, Kisii county. Shirleen’s father, Fred Ogata Mogire, acknowledged the community’s attempts to strengthen the bridge but highlighted its deteriorating condition, describing it as rotten, shaky, and unsafe. Omondi stressed the inevitability of a tragic collapse if immediate action is not taken.

In a determined call to action, Omondi declared, “We are going to build this bridge today!!!” Urging supporters to contribute, he provided Shirleen’s father’s contact number (0722115399) for financial assistance.

The video, which garnered mixed reactions last week, portrayed Shirleen trembling as she cautiously traversed the unstable bridge over an overflowing river on her daily journey to school. Omondi and other concerned individuals expressed their frustration, directing criticism at local politicians for what they perceived as negligence, asserting that these leaders had failed in safeguarding the lives of their constituents. Some netizens also condemned the video’s creator, accusing them of irresponsibility in capturing and disseminating such a harrowing scene. Omondi, in particular, lamented the precarious situation faced by the young girl, emphasizing the potential loss of life due to what he characterized as the greed and negligence of those responsible.
