Kenyan comedian and entertainer, Eric Omondi, has demonstrated his compassionate side by spearheading a fundraising campaign for Mama Mary, a single mother of six, one of whom is adopted. Mama Mary, who is disabled, recently fell victim to harassment by city council Askaris.
In response to this distressing incident, Eric Omondi assumed the responsibility of rallying his social media followers to generate funds aimed at improving Mama Mary’s life. He shared a distressing video depicting county Askaris physically dragging Mama Mary on the ground during a crackdown on street vendors in Nairobi city.
In a heartfelt plea, he shed light on Mama Mary’s challenging circumstances, describing her as a disabled single mother who has been tirelessly engaged in street vending for two decades. Furthermore, he lamented the unjust harassment inflicted upon her by the city Askaris, which resulted in the destruction of her merchandise. In his post, he urgently sought to locate Mama Mary, emphasizing the collective resolve to uplift her from her plight.
Subsequently, Eric Omondi took to live social media broadcasts to mobilize his devoted followers, urging them to contribute funds to support Mama Mary. His efforts bore fruit, as he proudly announced today that a substantial sum of Ksh 817,000 had been raised thus far. He extended his gratitude to everyone who contributed and encouraged further donations.
In a celebratory tone, he exclaimed, “WE DID IT GUYS!!! We changed her life!!! Thank you to everyone who sent anythingđđđ. GOD BLESS YOU!!! We are at Ksh 817K TUFIKISHE MITAA. For those who still want to send, her number is 0727404199. God bless you guysđđ. GOD WINS!!”
This act of kindness is not the first of its kind from Eric Omondi, as he previously raised Ksh 556,000 to aid Quinter Adhiambo, a Smokie Mayai vendor who was similarly harassed by City Council Askaris a few days ago.
