In the 26-second clip, Madowo captured the ODM lawmaker’s vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. The journalist, who refused to give way, attempted to block the vehicle in protest of the traffic violation.
The situation quickly escalated into a roadside argument, with the MP’s driver hurling insults at Madowo as Orero looked on from the front passenger seat. The visibly agitated lawmaker was heard daring Madowo to report the incident to President William Ruto, shouting, “Go and report it to Ruto!”
Unshaken, Madowo responded, “I will take it to Ruto.” Moments later, the MP’s vehicle sped off, with the driver continuing to shout obscenities.
Sharing the video online, Madowo remarked, “Is that spicy passenger your MP? That appears to be Kibra MP Peter Orero, who’s a former high school administrator.”
The clip quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from Kenyans who accused the MP of arrogance and poor leadership.
“From classroom discipline to road chaos, Kibra MP Peter Orero skipped the lesson on leading by example,” one user commented. Another added, “Very unfortunate coming from an elected leader. It’s the reason Parliament has become what it is — sad.”
According to Kenya’s Traffic Act, driving on the wrong side of the road is a punishable offence that can attract a fine of up to KSh 10,000, a six-month jail term, or both. If the act is deemed dangerous or reckless, the offender may face penalties of up to KSh 100,000, depending on the severity of the offence.
