Religion is increasingly being used as a tool for manipulating people and exploiting their hard-earned money.
Some pastors have become adept at manipulation, extracting millions from unsuspecting congregants who place their faith in them.
Victims in Eldoret Under Scrutiny
In Eldoret, a pastor has gone into hiding after allegedly defrauding his congregants of millions of shillings through a fraudulent investment scheme. Apostle Seko Silas of Rofam Center Christian Church persuaded his followers to invest heavily in his company, De La Vie Consult, by promising them substantial returns.
According to the victims, the pastor framed the investment as a path to financial freedom and security for their families. Many of them sold their property or took out loans to invest, enticed by the promise of earning Ksh30,000 per month.
One victim reported losing over three million shillings, stating, “He promised Ksh30,000 per month for every Ksh100,000 invested.” Another victim mentioned receiving payments initially, but the scheme quickly collapsed.
Silas has denied the allegations, asserting that his company was a lifeline for many people and that the disgruntled investors are simply ungrateful. He claims that the business will survive despite the negative publicity.
However, the affected church members have reported the matter to the police.
This incident has sparked concerns about the exploitation of religious faith for financial gain. Other pastors who have been involved in similar scandals include Pastor Kanyari, Pastor Ezekiel, and Pastor James Wanjohi.
