Isaac Mwaura, a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, has recently taken on the role of government spokesperson, a position appointed to him by President Ruto. This appointment comes after Colonel Cyrus Oguna’s departure, who had succeeded Eric Kiraithe, both of whom had served in the Jubilee regime. The vacancy arose when Oguna resigned seven months ago to assume the role of chief of staff for Siaya Governor James Orengo.
Mwaura, armed with an impressive academic background that includes a bachelor’s degree in special education, a master’s degree in development studies, and another in government policy, has stepped into this crucial role.
As the government spokesperson, Mwaura has a wide range of responsibilities. He serves as the official voice of the government, responsible for disseminating information about government initiatives and policies. Moreover, he plays a pivotal role in addressing inquiries from journalists concerning government actions, promoting government programs, and conveying official government statements.
In terms of compensation, Mwaura’s position falls within job group U, which entitles him to a basic salary ranging from sh 292,765 to 576,120. In addition to his basic salary, he will receive various allowances, including a monthly house allowance of sh 100,000, an entertainment allowance of sh 100,000, an extraneous allowance of sh 100,000, and a domestic workers allowance of sh 100,000. In total, his monthly earnings will range from sh 692,765 to sh 976,120. Additionally, he will enjoy a 30-day annual leave and comprehensive medical coverage, which are standard perks for someone in his position.
To qualify for this role, an individual must be a Kenyan citizen with a minimum of 15 years of experience in media or communication. Furthermore, possessing a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or journalism is a prerequisite. Additionally, affiliation with a professional body related to these fields, such as the Media Council of Kenya, is mandatory.
