A wave of confusion has gripped many Kenyans in recent hours after a photo surfaced online showing former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu at a local hair transplant clinic, sparking speculation that he may have been released from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
The clinic, identified as Artistic Hair Transplant Centre, posted the image on its official Facebook page with a caption that read:
“Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, thank you for trusting Artistic Hair Transplant Centre.”
This sparked public debate, as many believed Waititu was still behind bars, serving a 12-year prison sentence over his involvement in a KSh 588 million corruption scandal. His sentencing came after prolonged legal proceedings, with the court rejecting multiple attempts by Waititu to secure bail.
In May 2025, Justice Lucy Njuguna dismissed his latest bail application, ruling it lacked merit and ordering that he remain in custody as his appeal against the conviction is determined.
The viral clinic photo has since misled some to believe that Waititu may have been secretly released. However, the photo was not recent. According to clarification from the Artistic Hair Transplant Centre and various credible reports, the picture was taken in March 2024, well before his imprisonment. The clinic has since stated they shared the image as a throwback and were not implying a current visit.
As of now, Ferdinand Waititu remains in custody at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, and no official communication has been issued confirming his release or any change in his legal status.
