Boda-boda Operator Hits New Land Cruiser  TX Offers Ksh 345 For Repair, Owner Rejects It

A minor traffic accident on Jinja Road in Kampala, Uganda on August 16, 2025, involving a boda-boda motorcyclist and a Land Cruiser has ignited a lively online debate. The rider, who lost control while carrying sacks of foodstuffs, collided with the high-end vehicle and attempted to make amends.

He offered the owner 10,000 Ugandan shillings (approximately KSh 345) to cover the damage—a gesture the owner rejected. Instead, the Land Cruiser’s owner insisted the rider accompany him to a mechanic to ensure full payment for the repairs.

Reactions on social media were sharply divided. Some commended the rider’s quick admission of fault and the gesture—even if modest. One person noted that by the time the rider pulled out the 10K, it showed he was genuinely sorry and should have been forgiven.

Others, however, argued that boda-boda riders often ignore traffic rules, and in such cases, the car owner had every right to demand full compensation for the repairs.

This incident mirrors another case earlier in January 2025 in Kitengela, where a female motorist was accused of hitting a boda-boda rider. The confrontation grew so tense that police had to intervene to ensure her safety.
