Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi has shed light on why he did not communicate with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga during a recent police raid at his home.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Wanjigi explained that although Raila visited his residence following the raid, he chose to remain hidden on the advice of his family, who feared for his safety.
Wanjigi shared that his family was insistent that he stay out of sight, believing that the police might kill him if he made his presence known.
“I didn’t speak to him [Raila] because my family felt it wasn’t safe for me to show myself,” Wanjigi said. “My family was very clear about it. They preferred to face the brutality themselves.”
During the raid, Wanjigi’s wife and other family members endured harsh treatment at the hands of the police.
Wanjigi described how his wife was violently assaulted, pulled from a sofa by a policewoman, and beaten.
Despite her desperate pleas of “Don’t shoot me,” the officers continued their mistreatment. Wanjigi expressed deep concern over the violence inflicted on his family, highlighting their remarkable bravery in protecting him.
“They told me they were willing to endure it because they feared that if I came out, the police would kill me,” he added.
Wanjigi admitted that he was inside his home throughout the entire ordeal but declined to reveal his exact location. He watched helplessly as the police terrorized his family, unable to intervene.
“I was inside my home, but beyond that, I won’t say where. I watched as they threatened my family,” he recounted.
Wanjigi also claimed that the raid was not just about finding him—it was a deliberate act of violence and theft. “They came to cause chaos and harm my family. It was an armed robbery. They stole money and jewelry, even taking items from my staff,” Wanjigi alleged.
The businessman argued that the raid was not conducted in accordance with the law but was instead a targeted attack intended to cause maximum harm to his home and loved ones.
