AWINJA: My Dad worked as a Mjengo man &Cobbler due to late payments

In a recent heartfelt Instagram post, the talented comedian offered Kenyans a glimpse into her past, paying tribute to her late father and reflecting on the sacrifices he made to raise her. Awinja expressed regret over her father’s premature departure and wished he could witness her success.

Acknowledging her father’s unwavering commitment to providing for the family, Awinja revealed that despite his full-time job as a County Askari, he often resorted to side hustles like cobbling and construction work due to delayed payments at his primary workplace.

“My Dad worked as a County Askari, and there were months without pay. He would take up side hustles like cobbling and construction work,” shared Awinja.

Additionally, Awinja fondly recalled her father’s affinity for traditional brew, narrating stories of him venturing to construction sites or local alcohol spots in Shauri Moyo for a tin of the brew. She expressed a wish that he could be present now to enjoy a crate of Tusker, imagining his happiness.

Reflecting on her journey to fame, Awinja gained prominence through her role in the popular Citizen TV show “Papa Shirandula,” where the late Charles Bukeko, alias Papa Shirandula, recognized her acting prowess during auditions and provided her with an opportunity.

Following the conclusion of “Papa Shirandula,” Awinja diversified her entertainment career, creating humorous skits that she shared on her social media platforms.

Today, Awinja has evolved into one of the most sought-after celebrities, attracting partnerships with major brands. In 2022, she collaborated with prominent companies such as East Africa Breweries, Exe Unga, and Naivas Supermarket.
