COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has dismissed claims that President William Ruto could serve only one term, expressing strong confidence that the Head of State will secure re-election.
Speaking during a public address, Atwoli laughed off the “one-term” slogan often used by critics of the current administration. He stated that, in his view, the outcome of the next election is already clear.
“I have a firm position, and I know that by 10 a.m. on election day, William Ruto will already have been elected. Sioni mtu wa kumtoa kwa hiyo kiti,” Atwoli said.
He went further to reference past political rivalries, arguing that even a powerful alliance could not stop Ruto in the previous election.
“Kama sisi na Raila pamoja na Uhuru Kenyatta tulishindwa kumpeleka Sugoi, nani mwingine ako na uwezo?” he posed, suggesting that no current political formation has the strength to unseat the president.
Atwoli’s remarks have sparked reactions across the political divide. Supporters of the president have welcomed his confidence, while critics argue that elections remain competitive and unpredictable.
The comments come amid growing political activity and early alignments ahead of the next general election, with leaders positioning themselves and shaping public narratives.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Atwoli’s bold declaration adds to the ongoing debate about the country’s future leadership.
