Oduor’s case drew public attention following the circulation of a viral video shared by journalist Larry Madowo, showing a government vehicle flouting traffic rules along a Nairobi road — a clip that sparked outrage online and prompted swift action from law enforcement authorities.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi, Oduor admitted to violating traffic laws while ferrying the legislator to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The court heard that the driver dangerously maneuvered through traffic, disregarding other motorists and endangering public safety.
In his defense, Oduor pleaded for leniency, explaining that he was under pressure to get the MP to the airport on time. “I was rushing Mheshimiwa to the airport,” he said, adding that it was his first offence and expressing deep remorse for his actions.
“You may have been under pressure, but the law does not exempt anyone,” she ruled. “Your actions endangered other road users. Let this be a lesson to you and others in similar positions.”
The court’s decision comes amid growing public concern over traffic indiscipline among VIP convoys and official drivers, with many Kenyans calling for stricter enforcement of road safety laws regardless of status or position.
