Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, better known as Akuku Danger, a popular comedian from the Churchill Show, is currently mourning the loss of his younger sister.
Akuku Danger shared the heartbreaking news on his social media platform. In his emotional post, he revealed that, like himself, his sister was born with Sickle Cell Anaemia, a condition characterized by the abnormal shape and breakdown of red blood cells.
“Waking up to the saddest news 😭😭 My dear little sister has passed away and joined the Lord. Just like me, she battled with sickle cell disease, and unfortunately, it took her life. Rest well, brave warrior. Nind gi kwe Merwa 🕊️😭.”
To remember and celebrate his sister’s life, Akuku Danger shared a short TikTok dance video of her.
Sickle Cell Anaemia, also known as Sickle Cell Disease, is a group of disorders that cause red blood cells to assume a sickle shape, leading to their early death and resulting in a shortage of healthy red blood cells (sickle cell anaemia). This condition can also lead to blood flow blockages, causing severe pain, commonly referred to as sickle cell crisis.
Akuku Danger’s personal experience with this incurable condition has been challenging. He has faced numerous hospital visits since he was young, and doctors once predicted that his life expectancy would not exceed 15 years, with most patients not living past 18 years. However, he expressed gratitude to God for surpassing these expectations, as he is now above 30 years old.
In light of his own experiences, the comedian advocates for increased awareness of sickle cell anaemia. He believes that many doctors still lack adequate knowledge on how to effectively manage this condition, emphasizing the importance of spreading awareness and improving medical support for those living with sickle cell disease.
