President William Ruto has openly criticized Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of incompetence in handling legal matters.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner with the Muslim community at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday evening, Ruto expressed his frustration over delays in establishing a Waqf—a charitable endowment where Muslims dedicate property for religious or public benefit.
The president attributed the delay to Muturi, who previously served as Attorney General, stating that he was not fit for the role. Ruto reassured the Muslim community that with the appointment of the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, the issue would soon be resolved.
“As we move forward, we will continue addressing issues such as education and balancing religious and formal learning,” Ruto said. “Regarding Waqf, I agree with you; it has taken too long. There was no justification for the delay, and I had a problem with the previous AG. He was fairly incompetent. However, with a very capable lady now in charge, I can assure you that the Waqf matter will be sorted out.”
Ruto’s remarks followed calls from Muslim leaders urging his intervention to expedite the establishment of the endowment fund.
Meanwhile, Muturi has been openly critical of Ruto’s administration, particularly concerning the government’s approach to handling abduction cases. Recently, he dismissed speculation about his resignation, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring government accountability.
“Why would I resign for speaking the truth?” Muturi questioned while addressing the press on March 21. “If there is wrongdoing, I must speak up. Resigning will not resolve the challenges we are facing.”
