The Cabinet Secretary for Finance, John Mbadi, has strongly responded to Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro’s criticism of the proposed 2025/26 national budget.
Mbadi called on lawmakers to be patient and allow him to demonstrate how a fair and balanced budget is crafted. He accused Nyoro, a former chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, of overseeing unequal budget allocations during his term.
Responding to claims that the coffee sector had been ignored in the new budget, Mbadi clarified that Ksh.4 billion has been allocated to the sector—an increase from the Ksh.3 billion allocated in the previous financial year.
“He claimed there was no allocation for coffee farming, yet during his leadership, the sector received Ksh.3 billion. This year, we have allocated Ksh.4 billion. If he hasn’t reviewed the budget, he should do so carefully,” Mbadi stated.
The Treasury CS urged Nyoro to thoroughly read the proposed budget to understand its content and objectives.
Mbadi also pointed out that several counties, some of which have never had tarmac roads since independence, will benefit in the upcoming budget. He cited Daadab constituency as an example, noting it will receive its first tarmac road under the new plan.
He went further to criticize Nyoro for allegedly directing significant funds to his own region during his tenure.
“When he was Budget Committee Chair for two years, he ensured that Ksh.6 billion was allocated to his constituency and Murang’a County,” Mbadi said.
Mbadi made these remarks at Dede Primary School in Awendo Sub-county, where he attended a fundraising event for spiritual churches in the area.
He was accompanied by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Awendo MP Walter Owino, and Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo. The leaders affirmed their support for President William Ruto and stated that regions like Nyanza are now benefiting from national development projects under his administration.
