Akothee Launches Campaign to Report TikTok Accounts Mocking Raila Odinga Junior

Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Akothee has taken a bold stand against online bullying by launching a mass reporting campaign targeting TikTok users participating in a challenge that mocks Raila Odinga Junior, the son of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The viral TikTok trend, which features users mimicking Raila Junior’s speech and tone, has sparked outrage among supporters of the Odinga family and advocates against cyberbullying. Many have described the challenge as disrespectful and insensitive, especially during a period of mourning following the passing of his father.

Akothee, known for her outspoken personality and fearless defense of others, took to her social media platforms to condemn those participating in the trend. She urged her followers to mass-report any TikTok accounts involved in spreading the videos, calling the act “a shameful display of ignorance and cruelty.”

“This is not entertainment. Making fun of someone’s voice or speech is bullying, not content. Raila Junior deserves respect just like every other Kenyan,” Akothee wrote.

The singer emphasized that social media freedom should not be used as a weapon to humiliate others, noting that Kenya’s online community has often crossed ethical lines under the guise of humor and trending content.

Her campaign has received mixed reactions online. Supporters praised her for using her influence to fight digital harassment, while critics argued that her approach could suppress freedom of expression on social media platforms.

Digital rights activists have also weighed in, warning that online trolling has become a growing issue in Kenya’s digital space, often targeting public figures and their families.

Despite the backlash, Akothee has remained firm in her stance, saying she will continue advocating for online accountability and respect, especially when it involves grieving families.

“We can laugh, we can create content, but we must remain human,” she said.

As her campaign gains traction, TikTok has yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported accounts. However, Akothee’s move has reignited discussions about cyberbullying, empathy, and digital responsibility among Kenyan content creators.
