Millie Odhiambo says-Kenyan women need to see Kenyan men as good enough. The moment they see a Mzungu foreigner, they think its heaven on earth, and they end up being used

Millie Odhiambo has urged Kenyan women to value local relationships and guard against what she described as subtle forms of neo-colonisation.

Speaking candidly, the Suba North MP said Kenyan women should not automatically assume that foreign men, particularly white foreigners, represent a better life. She cautioned that idealizing “Mzungu” partners as “heaven on earth” can lead to disappointment and, in some cases, ridicule.

Odhiambo emphasized that Kenyan men are “good enough” and deserving of equal consideration. According to her, relationships should be built on mutual respect, shared values, and genuine commitment rather than perceptions tied to race or nationality.

She further warned that uncritical admiration of foreigners could reflect lingering colonial-era mindsets. Calling for greater self-confidence and cultural pride, she encouraged Kenyan women to make relationship choices based on substance rather than stereotypes.

Her remarks have sparked debate online, with some agreeing on the need for self-worth and national pride, while others argue that love and relationships are a matter of personal choice.
