Political commentator Cosmo Choy has sparked debate after issuing a strong warning to President William Ruto regarding his support base within the Mt Kenya region. In his remarks, Choy claimed that some Kikuyu leaders surrounding the President are misleading him and may not deliver votes in the 2027 general election.
Choy alleged that certain prominent figures are using their proximity to power for personal gain rather than advancing genuine political loyalty. He further argued that slogans and public displays of support may not necessarily translate into votes when election time arrives. According to him, the President risks being politically isolated if he relies on leaders he described as self-serving.
In his comments, Choy also mentioned several politicians by name, accusing them of exploiting Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for financial or strategic advantage. The allegations have added fuel to ongoing discussions about political realignments and internal dynamics within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, particularly in the Mt Kenya region.
The remarks come at a time when political alliances are already shifting in preparation for the 2027 elections. Mt Kenya remains a critical voting bloc in national politics, and any signs of division or dissatisfaction within the region are closely watched by both allies and rivals.
While Choy’s comments reflect one perspective within the broader political conversation, the leaders mentioned have not publicly responded to the accusations. As the political season gradually intensifies, statements like these highlight the growing tensions and strategic maneuvering shaping Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
