Shock and anger have rocked Bungoma after a nurse working at a private hospital was arrested for allegedly defiling a Form Three student within the hospital premises.
According to police, the minor had visited the hospital on Monday seeking treatment when the nurse allegedly lured her into a consultation room, locked the door, and assaulted her.
The girl immediately confided in her mother after leaving the facility, prompting the family to file a report at the nearest police station. The swift action led to the nurse’s arrest.
Bungoma County Police Commander confirmed the arrest, assuring residents that the suspect is in custody and will be arraigned once investigations are complete.
“We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves. The safety of minors must be protected at all costs,” he stated.
The incident has sparked outrage across Bungoma, with parents and community leaders staging protests outside the hospital demanding justice for the victim.
“This is heartbreaking. How can someone entrusted with saving lives turn into a predator? We demand justice and stronger safeguards for our children,” one resident lamented.
The minor has since undergone medical examination and trauma counseling. Human rights activists have also taken up the case, urging authorities to fast-track prosecution and tighten laws against sexual offenders in sensitive professions such as healthcare.
The nurse remains in police custody as residents await the next court proceedings.
