The woman, identified only as Mary to protect her children, was discovered in a maize plantation with multiple stab wounds on her chest and abdomen.
According to police, Mary had been working as a casual laborer on a local farm. Tensions had reportedly been rising in recent weeks after her employer accused her of being involved in an affair with her husband. Neighbors disclosed that the employer had earlier threatened Mary, warning her to stay away from her family.
On the day of the incident, Mary left home early for her usual farm duties. Hours later, her lifeless body was discovered hidden among tall maize stalks by another worker. Police said the nature of her injuries indicated she was attacked with a sharp object.
Shocked residents described Mary as a quiet, hardworking mother struggling to raise her children after separating from her husband years ago. “She was a humble woman. We never expected her life to end this way,” said one neighbor.
The employer and her husband have since been summoned for questioning, with detectives pursuing leads that point to a planned killing, as there were no signs of robbery. Nairobi County Police Commander Benjamin Mwangi confirmed the incident, stressing that no suspect would be spared. “We have crucial leads, and we are treating this as a murder case. The suspects will be brought to book,” he said.
Mary’s body was taken to the City Mortuary for postmortem, while relatives make burial arrangements. Her three children are now under the care of close family members.
The killing has reignited concerns over rising cases of domestic violence and infidelity-related crimes across the country. Leaders have urged residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
