A woman living with HIV has opened up about the challenges many people with the condition face when it comes to relationships and love.
She revealed that one of the hardest parts of living with HIV is dealing with rejection and stigma, especially when trying to build romantic connections. Disclosing one’s HIV status can lead to discrimination, making it difficult to find a supportive partner.
She explained that people living with HIV (PLHIV) often feel insecure, especially when they fall in love with someone who is HIV-negative. This fear can prevent them from opening up or pursuing love.
However, she emphasized the importance of self-love before expecting love from others. “We must love ourselves twice as much as we want to be loved,” she said.
Self-love, according to her, means staying on treatment, eating healthy, practicing safe sex, managing stress, and being financially responsible.
She encouraged others living with HIV to embrace their journey and normalize self-care.
“Dear PLHIV, make self-love your priority,” she said.
