Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has called on opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that failure to do so would give President William Ruto an easy path to re-election.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro FM, the governor said if opposition parties fail to agree on a joint candidate, then each leader may opt to run individually, leaving Kenyans with the responsibility of choosing the best option from a divided field.
Natembeya noted that such a scenario could mark a turning point in Kenya’s politics, where voters might for the first time cast their ballots for a president without paying attention to tribal affiliations.
He further revealed that discussions are already underway within the opposition to identify a suitable flagbearer who can mount a strong challenge against President Ruto. The governor expressed optimism that the talks would bear fruit, with one candidate receiving unanimous backing from all members of the opposition coalition.
His remarks have sparked debate within political circles, as Kenyans wait to see how other opposition leaders will respond to the call for unity ahead of 2027.
