‎Amount of Money Ruto Has Donated to Family of Mask Hawker Shot By Police Officer

‎President William Ruto has donated KSh 1 million to the family of Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, the hawker who was fatally shot during the June 17 protests in Nairobi.

‎The donation was delivered by Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina during an emotional prayer meeting held in Githunguri Village, Kangema, ahead of Mwangi’s burial scheduled for July 11.

‎Mwangi’s family had earlier recorded an official statement at Central Police Station, a day after he was pronounced dead at Kenyatta National Hospital.

‎His father, Jonah Kariuki, recounted the painful events, stating that his son was shot in the head and later succumbed to his injuries. The incident, initially treated as assault, has since been booked as a murder case.

‎Two police officers, Klinzy Barasa and Duncan Kiprono, have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

‎While they were first charged with assault, the family is demanding that the charges be upgraded to murder, citing the fatal nature of the incident.

‎The President’s financial support brought some relief to the grieving family, but calls for justice remain loud, with mourners and leaders urging swift accountability for Mwangi’s death.
