A tragic domestic incident has rocked Mokowe in Lamu County after a General Service Unit (GSU) officer allegedly shot and killed his wife and their 5-year-old son.
Reports indicate the officer found his wife in a compromising situation with a local preacher, which led to a heated confrontation at their home. Authorities say the officer, overcome by emotions, used his service firearm during the altercation.
According to Lamu County Commissioner Wesley Koech, the officer then turned the gun on himself in an apparent suicide attempt but survived and was placed under custody.
The bodies of the woman and the child were taken to the mortuary. The officer is undergoing treatment under police watch.
Residents expressed shock, describing the family as peaceful with no known disputes. Commissioner Koech has called on families to seek peaceful conflict resolution and urged community and religious leaders to offer counseling support.
Police are investigating the incident. The officer will be arraigned once he is deemed fit to stand trial.
