“They’re Coming for Me” -MP Charles Were Cried for Help Weeks Before He Was Gunned Down

More heartbreaking details have come out following the killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP), Charles Ong’ondo Were. It now appears that Mr. Were feared for his life long before he was shot dead on April 30, 2025, in Nairobi.

The MP was killed near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road at around 7:30 p.m. A motorcycle with two people stopped next to his car, and one of them, the pillion passenger, shot him before escaping. Sadly, Mr. Were was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Now, new reports show that Mr. Were had warned people that he was not safe. Just two months ago, on February 8, he told the public and the police that his life was in danger.

He said there were people causing violence in his constituency, and he believed they were being sent by outsiders.

He spoke about being attacked during a funeral in Nyatindo, East Kamagak Ward, where a group of thugs tried to stop him from speaking.

He also mentioned another scary moment when his car was blocked while leaving another funeral. He said if he hadn’t had his security team with him, something bad might have happened.

In another video that has been shared widely, Mr. Were claimed that some people were planning to kill him during a public event.

He said a former Member of County Assembly (MCA) and another man were planning to bring police and youth to cause chaos so that he could be shot.

These warnings are now seen as a clear sign that the MP knew his life was under threat.

On the day he died, Mr. Were had spent the afternoon with fellow MPs, including Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Obara. She said he was cheerful and full of life, and she was shocked to learn he had been killed shortly after they parted ways.

Other leaders, including Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda, Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, expressed sadness and called for a full investigation.

It is now clear that MP Charles Ong’ondo Were had feared for his life for months. His death has left many in shock, and there is growing pressure on the police to find out who planned and carried out this tragic murder.
