CCTV footage surfaced on Sunday night revealing the abduction of activist Shadrack Kiprono by unidentified individuals.
In the video, Kiprono is seen walking in a shopping complex in Nairobi’s South B area when he is approached and forcefully taken by a group of assailants.
He was then forced into a white Prado which promptly departed to an undisclosed location.
Subsequently, the vehicle believed to be involved in the abduction of Shadrack was reportedly identified through photos circulated online after the incident.
The event has sparked widespread outrage on social media platforms as Kenyans demand the release of the activist, known for his active participation in recent anti-finance bill protests.
Shadrack Kiprono had recently appeared on Citizen TV, advocating for the protests and urging demonstrators to take to the streets against the Finance Bill.
His abduction adds to a concerning pattern of similar incidents targeting outspoken youth involved in the protests.
Earlier on Sunday, Dr. Austin Omondi, who was organizing a blood donation campaign to support protesters in Nairobi, was also abducted and detained for several hours. His release came after the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union threatened to shut down hospitals nationwide.
Similarly, social media influencer Billy Simani was abducted from his home on Friday evening and held until Saturday evening, when the Law Society of Kenya intervened and secured his release following a tip-off about his location.
These incidents underscore a troubling trend of targeting individuals perceived as leaders or supporters of the ongoing protests, raising significant concerns about personal safety and freedom of expression in Kenya.
