The independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) told presidential candidates that they have up to mid this month for them to present to the commission their details which should include the names of their running mates.
In deputy president William Ruto’s camp, several people had come forward as the DP faced pressure to name his number two from the vote rich Mt Kenya region where Rigathi Gachagua, Prof Kithure Kindiki, Justin Muturi, Alice Wahome, Ndindi Nyoro and Anne Waiguru had been mentioned.
However, reports streaming in this morning indicate that deputy president William Ruto has finally settled on a running mate after being given a report by a secret selection panel that he had quietly and strategically formed.
The panel is said to have forwarded the name of DP Ruto’s former lawyer at ICC Prof Kithure Kindiki to be his number two with The Standard reporting that Ruto has readily accepted Prof Kithure Kindiki’s name.
It is said that Kithure Kindiki has a special place in DP Ruto’s heart following his representation at ICC and also his experience in government and it is expected that Ruto will submit his name to IEBC. Mathira MP Hon Rigathi Gachagua is said to have come second in the vetting.
