Kihenjo, a name almost synonymous with family entertainment, is the charismatic radio presenter at Kameme FM who is known by the moniker “Kizangala” on air. In real life, he goes by the name Joel Mungai among those who are close to him. Collaborating with the renowned Muthoni wa Kirumba, he co-hosts the mid-morning show titled ‘Cajamuka.’
With a career spanning over 25 years in the comedy industry, Kihenjo has become a household name, especially among the Kikuyu community in central Kenya, thanks to his humorous satire. His popularity skyrocketed a few years ago, making him the talk of every young child in the region.
Beyond his radio endeavors, Kihenjo hosts his own comedy show on Kameme FM daily at 7:30 PM, captivating audiences with his unique brand of humor. In the earlier years of his career, he gained recognition for his performances in tattered clothes, adorned with white beards and a walking stick, creating the appearance of an old mzee (elder). His financial breakthrough came through the sale of CDs containing his comedy material. Additionally, he engaged in church gigs and events, although not every function proved financially rewarding.
One distinctive aspect of Kihenjo’s public persona is his commitment to keeping his personal life private. Despite being a prominent figure, he remains tight-lipped about his family life, seldom divulging details about his wife and children. On air, Kihenjo only refers to his acting wife as ‘Majangwa,’ maintaining a discreet boundary between his professional and personal spheres.
