A 71-year-old woman, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, has admitted to drug trafficking charges after being apprehended for the sale of illegal substances at her residence in Kasarani, Nairobi. Her arrest on September 22 came about due to a tip-off received by the local assistant chief, implicating her in the illicit trade.
Accompanied by officers from the Marurui police station, the administrator conducted a search at Ms. Kamau’s residence, ultimately leading to her apprehension and the confiscation of various contraband items. The seized items included 50 liters of chang’aa, 40 rolls of marijuana, and 30 tablets suspected to be narcotics, all discovered within her Marurui village home. These unidentified tablets had been concealed within a pair of gumboots, while an additional one kilogram of Cannabis leaves was also seized.
In a subsequent appearance before Senior Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti at the Makadara Law Courts, Ms. Kamau was formally charged with narcotics trafficking. Furthermore, she faced charges related to the possession of alcohol that did not meet the established standards.
In her defense, Ms. Kamau pleaded guilty to the charges, citing her desperate circumstances as the reason for her involvement in the illicit trade. She explained that she had resorted to this business in order to provide for herself and an adult child under her care.
The elderly defendant will remain in custody until October 6, when she is scheduled to receive her sentencing.
