Kenya Power Officials Caught Receiving Bribe To Restore Power Supply

Two employees of Kenya Power, namely Lawrence Njogu and Patrick Onsare, found themselves in the custody of detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) this past Wednesday. Their arrest stemmed from a report by a homeowner residing in Kawangware, who alleged that these officials had solicited a bribe of Sh.50,000 in exchange for reconnecting the electricity supply, which had been previously disconnected.

The arrest unfolded promptly after Mr. Njogu and Mr. Onsare accepted the specified sum of money from the complainant. The EACC, upon verifying the allegations, orchestrated an operation that culminated in the apprehension of the suspects as they received the demanded bribe.

Initially, the suspects were detained at Kilimani Police Station, but they were subsequently transferred to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station for further processing. It is anticipated that they will face charges related to bribery in due course.
