Pastor James Ng’ang’a, the esteemed founder of Neno Evangelism Church, has consistently intrigued and sometimes even startled many due to his candid and outspoken nature. Despite his respected position as a clergyman, Ng’ang’a is unreserved when it comes to expressing his thoughts on matters that deeply concern his life and faith.
In a recent incident that gained significant attention on social media, the pastor sparked a flurry of mixed reactions as he delved into the topic of tithing during one of his sermons. Addressing his congregation, the controversial preacher delivered a stern warning to his followers regarding the size of their tithes. He proceeded to recount a recent encounter in which one of his parishioners had brought a meager offering of Ksh. 500 as their tithe while also requesting a blessing for their children.
With visible frustration, the Pastor exclaimed, “Someone approached me just yesterday with a Ksh. 500 tithe and asked me to intercede for their children and grandchildren. Five hundred shillings! It wouldn’t even cover the cost of fuel for a vehicle, let alone a motorbike taxi ride. This is hardly a meaningful sacrifice.”
In a surprising twist, Ng’ang’a went on to advise those who intended to present such meager amounts as tithes to instead direct their offerings to city witch doctors. He questioned the sincerity and significance of such a small sacrifice, suggesting, “What kind of offering is that? Take it to the traditional healers—the ones who provide seeds and herbs.”
The pastor’s remarks triggered a diverse range of reactions from Kenyans on social media, with some accusing him of greediness while others weighed in with differing opinions.
