A night security guard from a nearby primary school stands accused of a horrific attack at a Nairobi girls’ secondary school.
Reports from the police indicate that he sneaked into the grounds, hid inside a girls’ toilet near a dormitory, and raped a Form Two student around 2 am.
The suspect reportedly threatened the victim with a knife and broken glass to prevent her from screaming, an attack that caused immense student fear, leading to the school’s temporary closure and urgent parent meetings.
Parents expressed deep shock and anger during a meeting, where the principal called the incident unfortunate and stated the school was equally traumatized, but life must go on.
However, tempers flared as parents demanded answers about lax dormitory security and insufficient guards, insisting on an inspection that revealed broken windows and a poorly repaired perimeter wall.
The principal acknowledged problems, stating the school became a boarding facility without promised infrastructure and questioning whether it should remain boarding or revert to a day school, suggesting parents fund improvements—a stance that further upset families.
Fearing for their safety, students refused to sleep in the dorms, with their protest escalating into chaos that required police intervention.
Sensing the unrest, the school sent parents a text message announcing indefinite closure and urging immediate collection of their children, causing widespread confusion and distress.
Parents strongly criticized the school’s handling of the situation, blaming management for causing unnecessary anxiety and failing to protect students.
