US-based Promoter Sue Gacambi now says TikTok can’t be TikTok without Luos

Sue Gacambi, a Kenyan woman residing in the United States, contends that TikTok loses its essence without the active presence of the Luo community. Through her TikTok platform, she articulates her belief that the absence of Luos could potentially dull the vibrancy of TikTok.

She specifically cites prominent Luo influencers like Nyako and Big Daddy as instrumental in elevating the platform’s popularity and entertainment value. “TikTok bila Luo haiezy kuwa TikTok; sasa, Lions tutazitoa wapi bila hao,” she asserts, underscoring the indispensable role Luos play in the TikTok ecosystem.

Furthermore, Gacambi humorously suggests that integrating a Kikuyu influencer into the mix, symbolized by the metaphorical lion, would be akin to an arduous endeavor. “Adding a Kikuyu giving you a lion on TikTok is like digging a rock from a hard place,” she quips, implying the unique cultural contributions that Luos offer.

She playfully speculates on the dynamics within the TikTok community, proposing that even if followers of Pastor Kanyari were to offer him recognition, it would be a Luo like Nyako who would be the first to endorse him with a lion, signifying their cultural allegiance.

Gacambi elaborates that it’s not a matter of financial capability but rather a cultural inclination that makes it challenging for Kikuyus to engage in such expressions of support.

She accentuates the dynamic energy Luos bring to TikTok, noting their propensity for lively interactions and dramatic flair. “Waluo wakitoka TikTok, kunaeza boeka; tumezoea matusi na all those kinds of drama sana na wanafanye TikTok ichangamke,” she remarks, highlighting the spirited engagement that characterizes Luo presence on the platform.

Moreover, she observes a significant discrepancy in viewership during live streams, where Luos often command audiences of over a thousand viewers compared to the more modest figures of other communities, ranging from 14 to 20 viewers.
