A heartbreaking event unfolded in Lang’ata constituency, where a student from the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) met a tragic end due to the distress stemming from a failed bet. Brian Ongwae, a 22-year-old resident of Raila Estate, took a substantial risk by wagering KSh 15,000, intended to cover his educational expenses, in the hopes of substantial gains. However, his gamble took a devastating turn, leading to his untimely demise, as reported by Citizen TV.
Neighbours recounted how Ongwae withdrew into solitude within his residence, engaging in what seemed like a conversation before an unsettling silence enveloped the surroundings. Concerned by the sudden silence, neighbours investigated further, only to discover Ongwae’s lifeless body suspended from one of the house’s beams.
George Mukuria, the chief of Muguimoini location, verified the tragic occurrence, affirming that law enforcement officials had commenced an inquiry into the matter. Ongwae’s remains were subsequently transported to the City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In a poignant note left behind, Ongwae implored his family, particularly his mother, to remain resilient in the face of adversity. Mukuria, recognizing the circumstances of Ongwae’s passing, issued a cautionary message to young individuals, advising against engaging in precarious ventures such as gambling and advocating for seeking assistance during periods of psychological distress.
