A scene of chaos and disbelief unfolded in Tom Mboya Estate when a married woman discovered her husband in an intimate encounter with an unexpected companion—her own mother.
The incident has stirred widespread debate about modern relationships, where respect for in-laws seems increasingly overlooked. In earlier times, it was unthinkable for men—or women—to disregard such familial boundaries. Traditionally, African men avoided spending nights at their in-laws’ homes, with some believing they should leave the village before sunset.
Damaris and Ken, both natives of a lakeside city, had been married for three years and lived comfortably with a house in Kisumu. Due to work commitments, they also maintained a residence in Nairobi, where Damaris primarily worked.
Reflecting on their life together, Damaris said, “We are moderately affluent, with two cars, two houses, and a decent family. I love my husband dearly, but his recent actions have left me bewildered. Thankfully, we are managing.”
Despite appearances, she admitted that their marriage had been struggling, with intimacy waning. Damaris suspected Ken of infidelity but had no concrete proof.
Four months ago, Ken reportedly traveled to Kisumu for a business meeting, arriving Friday evening ahead of the Monday schedule. Unaware of his plans, Damaris had arranged a surprise visit, intending to treat him to a traditional meal.
On Monday morning, Damaris set off for Kisumu with her sister. After a brief stop at Kibuye Market for groceries, they headed to their home, just a short distance away.
Arriving around 1 p.m., Damaris noticed the open windows—a familiar habit of her husband. As she approached the door, she heard an unmistakable sound of passion. Driven by curiosity, she quietly entered and made her way to the guest bedroom, only to be confronted with a shocking sight: her mother and her husband entangled in bed.
