Attaining low scores in national exams does not necessarily determine one’s future success. A compelling example of this is Titus Kiarie, who, despite scoring 103 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), went on to achieve remarkable success in life by establishing one of the leading insurance companies in the country.
In a recent interview with TUKO.co.ke, Titus Kiarie, now the Chief Executive Officer of Autoguard Insurance Agency, shared the inspiring narrative of his journey from a challenging academic start to becoming a thriving entrepreneur in the insurance industry.
Titus began by recounting his experience with the KCPE, where he scored 103 marks at Matharu Primary School in Uasin Gichu county. Initially bracing himself for disappointment and reprimand from his father, Titus was pleasantly surprised when his father adopted a different and encouraging approach.
Rather than scolding him, Titus’s father extended congratulations and shared stories of individuals who achieved immense success without formal education. “He congratulated me and said he believed that I had done my best and, in fact, promised me a gift. He told me of a man who didn’t even go to school but had become a millionaire. My dad assured me that no circumstance could block my blessings. I felt like a hero for the first time,” Titus recalled.
Motivated by his father’s positive perspective, Titus enrolled at Chirchir Secondary School, dedicated himself to his studies, and eventually earned a C Plain in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
“From there, I joined the College of Insurance and graduated with a Diploma in Insurance,” said Titus. Subsequently, he entered the corporate world, working as an underwriter and claims officer for seven years.
However, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Titus decided to take a leap of faith. He left formal employment and established Autoguard Insurance Agency, a company specializing in providing risk management solutions for individuals, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and corporate entities.
“We pride ourselves in being a reliable and dependable company, ultimately living the promise of our slogan, A Promise Kept,” he said.
In addition to his accomplishments in the insurance sector, Titus is also a successful farmer who dedicates his free time to agricultural pursuits.
