Imagine the possibility of earning a substantial income by simply sleeping during daylight hours! This is the extraordinary story of a young Kenyan couple who have managed to make Ksh. 50,000 from their slumbers.
Meet Raymax and Maycee Ochieng, popularly known as “The Ray’s,” who have found a unique way to monetize their daytime sleep. The couple has gained fame for live-streaming their daily naps on TikTok, captivating their audience as they doze off, keeping their viewers engaged until the early hours of the morning.
In a recent interview, Maycee Ochieng shared that there was a week when they earned over Ksh. 60,000 from their unconventional endeavor. “I can vividly recall a week when we earned more than Sh.60,000. One day we woke up with Sh.20,000, the next day Sh.30,000, and another day Sh.10,000. While people do sleep, most do so at night, but in our case, our followers witnessed our daytime slumber,” she revealed.
Despite their initial success, Maycee Ochieng acknowledged that their weekly earnings have experienced a slight decline. She attributed this decline to the short attention span of Kenyan viewers, noting that some of their fans have gradually lost interest in watching them sleep day after day. “Right now, I cannot say it is as lucrative. Kenyan viewers lose interest quickly in a single content. Currently, we are not earning as well as we used to,” she lamented.
She also reminisced about a time when Kenyan fans were captivated by their unique content and would send gifts, resulting in earnings of up to Sh. 60,000 in just one week. Their success was so remarkable that they were able to upgrade from their humble abode in the slums of Kibera to a comfortable two-bedroom apartment.
The novelty of the couple sleeping during the day, in contrast to the common nighttime sleep, fascinated their audience and contributed to their initial popularity.
However, the challenges of content creation through sleeping are not to be overlooked. Ray emphasized that they often receive harsh comments and even insults from their fans. Some followers have urged them to seek more conventional employment.
Ray, on the other hand, firmly considers their daytime slumber as their full-time job, given that it provides them with a source of income. He challenges those who label them as lazy to attempt sleeping throughout the day since it is not as easy as it may seem. “Some people think it’s effortless, but sleeping during the day can be quite exhausting. Imagine sleeping for over six hours in one position because you have to face the camera. Sometimes I have to take a break off-camera to stretch,” Ray explained.
Maycee Ochieng added that their video content aimed to spread love as they showcased their happiness together. “I’m trying to show that love still exists among us and that genuine love can be shared with everyone. Our content is not intended to promote laziness but rather to demonstrate that love should always be held in high regard,” she emphasized.
Despite their current challenges, the couple remains optimistic about their future earnings. They have been approached by several companies for brand endorsements, opening up new opportunities for their unique content and potential revenue growth.
