A Kenyan university student from one of the country’s top institutions has set social media ablaze after sharing a heartbreaking and deeply controversial account of how her pursuit of academic success took a devastating turn.
The story emerged through a post shared by Betty Wahome, where the young woman candidly narrated her experience. According to her, she had been missing classes frequently — a risky move in many universities where attendance is often tied to final grades.
Noticing her academic inconsistency, her lecturer—who was in charge of allocating individual project marks—saw a potential failure looming over her. But instead of offering academic guidance or support, he made a chilling offer: pass the unit, but only in exchange for sex.
Emotionally distressed and feeling cornered by the fear of failing, the student agreed to the deal. She later admitted to fulfilling her end of the bargain.
When results were finally released, she was shocked to find herself not only passing the course but topping the class. To add to the shock, the same lecturer went ahead to appoint her as the class representative—a role she had never imagined holding.
That night, the relationship between the two continued. She described the encounter as “captivating,” praising the lecturer’s performance. But the price she would eventually pay was beyond comprehension.
Two months later, while undergoing her internship, she began noticing strange health symptoms. A hospital visit confirmed her worst fears—she was HIV positive.
In disbelief, she contacted the lecturer, the only person she had been intimate with in the last eight months. His response? He blocked her immediately—leaving her to carry the emotional and physical burden alone.
Her story, now widely circulated, has sparked outrage online. Many are calling for accountability, both from the lecturer and institutions that continue to harbor such predatory behavior.
