Top Study Abroad Programs 2023

Several American universities and colleges have established themselves as leaders in study abroad programs. Arcadia University is one such institution, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top regional universities in the North and among the best for study abroad opportunities. The Institute of International Education’s Open Doors 2011 report also recognized Arcadia University as one of the top 10 universities in the United States for the highest percentage of undergraduate students studying abroad.

The University of Texas at Austin boasts one of the largest and most active study abroad programs in the country. Encouraging participation from all undergraduates, the university offers various study abroad options such as UT Austin faculty-led programs, exchanges, affiliated programs, independent research, and non-UT Austin programs.

The Ohio State University is also a prominent player in international education. According to the Open Doors report, it ranks among the top 10 U.S. institutions for its international student enrollment and top 20 for the number of students studying abroad. In 2010, OSU hosted 6,082 international students and sent 1,945 students abroad, with popular destinations including the UK, Canada, China, Italy, and Germany.

San Diego State University has established top-ranking programs in a variety of disciplines such as psychology, biology, geography, and social work, as well as public administration. Its undergraduate International Business Program has been rated the best study abroad program in the country by the Institute for International Education.

Stonehill College is also known for its excellent semester abroad programs. According to the Open Doors Survey, in the 2006-07 academic year, it had the highest number of students (230) in Massachusetts spending a semester abroad.
